After 18 years, my flat needed a makeover, so I decided to give it a 1930s twist. It took me six months to complete. When I started, I didn't know that my flat would be put up for sale. I think this restyling will only benefit it. Hopefully, it will go to someone who can appreciate all the work that has gone into it, but of course, that's out of my hands.

How I created this project

By installing panels on flat doors and architraves around the window frames and wall openings, as well as radiator covers, I transformed my boring project flat into a cosy 1930s environment. The skirting boards and architrave mouldings are standard products, but the flat panels and strips all come from TOSIZE.fi. I was able to measure the widths in advance. I couldn't measure the lengths, so I ordered them longer than needed and cut them to size at home.

Dimensions of my DIY project

Strips and sheets in various sizes. Carefully measured and marked out in advance.  The panels on the doors could remain exactly the same size as the sheets. So 610x1220 or sawn through and then approximately 610x610. For doors 230 high. Where possible, I did not use MDF thicker than 10 mm. This was to save weight during installation.

The style of the project

The end result is a warm, cosy home with clear 1930s characteristics. The combination of sleek panels, classic mouldings and a calm base creates a timeless whole that adds character without being overpowering.

Why MDF Natural is a good choice

MDF Natural is ideal for projects such as this. The material is smooth, stable and perfect for painting, making it ideal for panels and interior details. By using thinner MDF, I was also able to keep the weight down without compromising on appearance or quality.
