In this DIY project, Fenna shows how she made a loft bed for her son. For this job she ordered a custom-made wood panel in a thickness of 28mm. This way she could start immediately. Read more about her approach and experience below.
Fenna's description
This is step 1 of the loft bed for my 6-year-old son. The standard loft beds do not fit the idea of what I have in mind. have my head. So make it yourself! Step 1 is the bed frame. This is partly attached to the wall and rests on 2 posts. It fits a slatted base and mattress measuring 1.80 by 0.80. I then still have a piece left for a loose 'stepping board' at the foot of the bed, so that you can easily 'dive into' the bed. Step 2 is to make a gate. This goes up to the ceiling. Very safe. This will come later. Step 3 is to make the cube cabinets that serve as both storage and stairs. This will also come later.
How I made this project
After extensively drawing up my idea in Sketchup, I started with the bed frame. I used 28mm pine carpentry panels for this. I attached the longest side wall to the stone wall. I attached the posts to the side walls with dowels and saw them neatly so that they disappear into the side walls. The 2 corners on the left side of the bed have been given a corner connection on the inside for extra strength. I also attached the right side wall to the wall to be sure. This is a wooden wall. In this house no wall is perpendicular and almost every wall is concave or convex. It requires some extra attention and challenge.
Dimensions of my DIY project

There is a headroom of 150.0 cm under the bed
